UPDATE: I-70 Accident in Frederick at Monocacy River Bridge

FREDERICK, Md. Maryland State Police says a tractor trailer and a dump truck collided on interstate 70 west bound on the bridge over the Monocacy River early Wednesday morning. The tractor trailer jackknifed and the dump truck overturned. Officials say major debris from the dump truck was  in the roadway.

Police say a trauma nurse, identified as Angela Weir, 47,  pulled up shortly after the collision, ran up to the scene to assist and jumped over a jersey wall. The woman believed that there was a median on the other side and fell 100-200 feet into the Monocacy River.

Weir and the dump truck driver, Charles Williams, 53, of Baltimore,  were transported to shock trauma by helicopter.  The tractor trailer driver, identified as Douglas Sexton of Sparrows Point, was taken to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

Police say due to the debris on 70 west bound, it was  closed for an extended period of time for clean up. Traffic was detoured to MD Route 144 while SHA works on clearing the road.

State Police says the investigation is continuing, and charges are pending.
