Fiery Crash Leaves One Dead In Mt. Airy

State Police say driver was trapped in a burning vehicle.


Mt. Airy, Md (KM)  One person was killed following a fiery crash in Mount Airy early Saturday morning.

State Police in Westminster say troopers and Carroll County Fire and Rescue responded to the 4600 block of Old National Pike (Md. Rt. 144) for a vehicle fire. Authorities say the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived, and the operator was still trapped inside. That individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say a preliminary investigation determined that the driver was traveling along Route 144 when for unknown reason the vehicle, a blue 2002 Ford Taurus, left the roadway. It went up a slight embankment and then an incline before entering a driveway. The car went airborne and hit a tree before landing on the ground, and bursting into flames.
The crash remains under investigation , and anyone who has information on this crash is asked to call the Maryland State Police in Westminster at 410-386-3000.
