Police say he put up a struggle.

Frederick, Md (KM) An escapee from a Frederick County Adult Detention Center work release program was apprehended in downtown Frederick on Thursday.

The Sheriff’s Office informed Frederick Police that Andrew Wayne Willett, 28, of Thurmont was inside a business in the 300 block of North Market Street. Street Crimes Team officers of the Frederick Police Department converged on the area. A plains clothes officer entered the business and identified Willett as he walked out the door.

As Willett left the business, he was approached by an officer. Police say he attempted to flee, and assaulted the cop who tried to take him into custody.

Other officers arrived and were able to gain control over Willett. He was turned over to the custody of the Sheriff’s Office.

The officer who was assaulted will be applying for charges against Willett of one count each of resisting arrest and 2nd-degree assault on a police officer.
