FREDERICK, Md. (DG)- A flash flood watch will go into effect for this region late tonight through Friday morning.
The flash flood watch is for parts of Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
The watch is for these counties in Maryland: Frederick, Washington, Carroll, Howard, Montgomery, Allegany, Anne Arundel, Calvert, Baltimore, Harford, Prince Georges, and St. Marys Counties. The flash flood watch also includes Loudoun County in Virginia and Jefferson, Berkeley, and Morgan Counties in West Virginia.
Forecasters say rain will start tonight. The greatest rain rates are expected late tonight through Thursday afternoon with rain fall amounts of 3 to 5 inches expected. Some areas may experience higher amounts of rain. The Blue Ridge and Catoctin Mountains also have an increased risk for higher rain totals.
The potential exists for flash flooding of small streams and creeks.
