Small Plane Crash In Montgomery County

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) — Montgomery County officials say 1 person is dead after a small plane crashed in Gaithersburg.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer said the crash occurred just after 6:15 p.m. Tuesday in a field off Laytonsville Road near Hawkins Creamery Road and close to the Davis Airport.

Firefighters responded to the field to battle a blaze.

Piringer said one person has been found dead but investigators have not found anyone else in the vicinity, leading them to believe the pilot was alone in the aircraft when it crashed.

Piringer said police, investigators and representatives from both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were on scene Tuesday night.

No further details were immediately available.
