Police Investigate Fatal Crash on I-70 In Hancock

Two accidents closed I-70 for hours

HANCOCK, Md. (DG)-Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal accident in Washington County.

The accident happened around 2:30 AM when a tractor trailer jack-knifed on I-70 eastbound in Hancock around Exit 3.  A passenger car ran into the jack-knifed tractor trailer.  A short time later, a second tractor trailer ran into the passenger car.  The driver of the passenger car, Allen Kifer, 60, was killed.

Due to the back-up of the accident at Exit 3, another accident involving two tractor trailers occurred at Exit 1B.

I-70 eastbound in Hancock was closed for over 8-hours for the accident investigation.
