She has apologized for cursing at police officers, her lawyer says.
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) – The lawyer for a 15-year-old Maryland girl says she won’t face court charges or supervision by juvenile authorities stemming from an arrest in which she was handcuffed and pepper-sprayed after her bicycle hit a car.
Attorney Robin Ficker announced the decision Tuesday.
The girl was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, plus disorderly conduct, marijuana possession and a traffic violation after resisting police efforts to question her about the accident Sept. 18.
Hagerstown Police Chief Victor Brito has said officers acted properly in handcuffing and pepper-spraying the girl so they could bring her to the police station after she refused to identify herself or her parents.
Ficker provided a letter the girl wrote to juvenile authorities apologizing for cursing at police during the incident.
