Police say it’s still an active investigation.
Frederick, Md (KM) It was four years ago that Ellis George-Lee Lamont was shot and killed.
Shortly before 2:00 AM on Sunday, September 30th, 2012, Frederick Police say officers responded to Mullinex Park for a shots-fired incident. They found Lamont lying at the entrance to the Mullinex pool with a single gunshot wound to the torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“In this instance Mr. Ellis was 36-years old when he was murdered. And he was the father of three children. And those kids are never going to get to know their father,” says Sgt. Andrew Alcorn with Frederick City Police.
While visiting with the Ellis family recently, Alcorn said Lamont’s mother and sister described how this homicide is affecting them on a daily basis. “And I brought up to them that we had previously offered a reward. And they wanted me to get the word back out there that they were still offering $10,000 reward for any information leading to the successful prosecution of his killer,” he says.
Even though this case remains unsolved, Sgt. Alcorn says someone out there saw what happened. “Investigators believe there were people in the park at that time, witnesses that are either scared, frightened or for some other reason don’t want to come forward,” he said. “There is no reason to be scared anymore. There’s no reason to be fearful of the person that did this.”
And, Sgt. Alcorn says, it’s important for eyewitnesses to help police identify a suspect so that charges can be placed. “If we can’t put a gun in someone’s hand in a case like this, it’s going to be almost impossible to prove in a court of law,” he says. “An eyewitness in a case like this is absolutely paramount. We need their help and we need everything that they saw.”
