Maryland State Police Investigating Murder Of An Inmate

Inmate was found unresponsive Mon. night.

Hagerstown, Md (KM) An investigation is underway into the murder of an inmate at the Maryland Correctional Institute in Hagerstown.

State Police say Benjamin Hall, 26, was found unresponsive on the floor of his cell Monday night. Correctional officers and medical unit personnel responded, but Hall was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was taken to the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

He was serving a seven-year sentence for theft.

Working through the night with the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services and prison staff, Maryland State Police homicide investigators say they learned that Hall may have been involved in an altercation with another inmate inside of hisĀ  cell. He was found at around 10:30 PM by a fellow inmate who notified correctional officers. Medical staff tried to revive him, but were not successful.

Investigators say a suspect has been developed, but no charges have been filed at this time.

Forensic analysts from the Maryland State Police processed the scene.

When the investigation is completed, authorities say they will present their report to the Washington County State’s Attorney’s Office for a review and determination of charges.
