FREDERICK,Md.(KR) The 17th Annual Pink Ribbon Gala that raises money for the Patty Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund is coming up this weekend.
The fund raises money to allow women who are suffering from breast cancer to get all of their treatments locally at Frederick Memorial Hospital without having to travel.
Patty Hurwitz, owner of Colonial Jeweler’s and Founder of the Foundation says the gala holds a jewelry auction that raises about 50-thousand dollars each year.
“All of our vendors from all over the country, mostly New York and other places, have been so generous and they donate items of jewelry to us for the Gala. Every proceed from the auction goes directly to the fund,” said Hurwitz.
She said this is something very close to hear heart that she started after finding out that she had breast cancer…
“I thought, you know, I can really turn this into something good, so that’s sort of funny when it all started. Once I got through my treatment and everything was done, we decided to set up the fund at the hospital and it became the Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund,” said Hurwitz.
Hurwitz said the event will be this Saturday, October 15th from 7-10 PM at Colonial Jeweler’s in Downtown Frederick. For more information, visit www.pinkribbonfrederick.org.
