Active Shooter Drill Takes Place Monday In Frederick

It involved the Sheriff’s Office & the Division of Fire & Rescue Services.

Frederick, Md (KM)  If you saw a lot police and fire activity at Wright Manufacturing at 4000 Wedgewood Boulevard in Frederick Monday afternoon, you don’t have to be concerned. It was a training exercise.

The Sheriff’s Office and the  Division of Fire and Rescue Services used the company’s warehouse to simulate an active shooter scenario where there were multiple injuries and some casualties. A unified command was set up to coordinate efforts in isolating the shooter and treating injured victims.

In a news release, the Sheriff’s Office says the current protocol requires rapid deployment of units to eliminate the threats and treat causality victims. Rescue task forces, consisting of deputies and medics, were deployed in the “warm” zones to identify and care for the victims who needed immediate medical attention, the agency says.

Authorities also say active assailants are involved in killing or attempting to kill people, usually in a populated or confined spaces. Incidents like these change quickly, and can be unpredictable. The Sheriff’s Office says immediate deployment is critical to help reduce civilian casualties.

Again, it was only a drill, not an actual active shooter incident.
