Kate Wagner Road and Route 27 in Westminster was closed for hours on Thursday after the truck overturned and spilled nearly 7,500 gallons of kerosene.
WESTMINSTER, MD (DG)-An accident between a tanker truck and a car had the intersection of Kate Wagner Road and Route 27 in Westminster was closed for hours on Thursday after the truck overturned and spilled nearly 7,500 gallons of kerosene.
Maryland State Police say the crash happened around 12:45 PM and sent both drivers to the hospital.
Police say the tanker truck, driven by 63-year-old Robert White, was traveling north on Route 27 behind a Toyota Prius, driven by 40-year-old Karla Scott. Investigators say Scott hit brakes to avoid going through a yellow light at the intersection.
Due to the wet roadway, White was unable to stop his tanker and struck the Prius from behind. White lost control of the truck, and it overturned near the intersection, spilling kerosene onto the road.
Scott was flown to Shock Trauma for treatment and White was taken to Carroll Hospital Center for his injuries. Police say their injuries are not life threatening.
