State Police Investigating Fatal Crash As Possible Hit & Run

It was originally thought to be a one-vehicle crash.

Big Pool, Md (KM)  Maryland State Police say they’re investigating last Friday’s fatal crash in Washington County as a possible hit and run. The accident along Interstate 70 near Big Pool killed Russell Francis, 58, of Hancock.

He was the driver of a Subaru Legacy which was traveling eastbound along I-70 in the right lane when a tractor-trailer moved into the left lane. Troopers say Francis moved into the left lane and his vehicle struck the front of the big rig. The Legacy then spun across the lane, into the median and then rolled over. Francis was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash was originally believed to be a one-vehicle wreck, but information received from witnesses say there may have been a second vehicle involved, according to State Police.

Anyone who may have witnessed this crash is asked to call the State Police Barrack in Hagerstown at 301-766-3800. Citizens can remain anonymous.
