Three-Vehicle Crash On I-70 Kills Frederick Man

The collision occurred early Wednesday morning.

Frederick, Md (KM) A Frederick man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning one eastbound  Interstate 70 near the I-270 ramp.

State Police say Ross Jonathan Michaels, 40, was the driver of a Toyota Corolla which was rear-ended by a Peterbilt tractor trailer which was traveling on the merge ramp to I-270, and had moved from lane three to lane four.

Because of the heavy traffic, the truck driver braked, causing the vehicle to jack-knife. The tractor trailer struck the rear of the rear of Michaels vehicle, causing it to hit the rear of a Ford F-150, which was in front of the Corolla. Both vehicles slowed down due to heavy traffic, troopers say.

Michaels was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor trailer driver was treated and released for minor injuries at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
