10 Indictments Handed Down Friday By Grand Jury

Four were juveniles charged in an assault.

 

 

Frederick, Md. (KM) Ten indictments were handed down Friday by the Frederick County Grand Jury.

State’s Attorney Charlie Smith says the panel charged Jason Allen Diggs, 16, of Frederick, with two counts of armed robbery, two counts of robbery, and one count each of conspiracy to commit robbery, reckless endangerment, 2nd-degree assault, conspiracy to commit 2nd-degree assault and attempted theft.

He says it was for an incident which occurred on October 1st, 2016 in Walkersville. “It was a total of 10 people, actually, that left a party, met a 17-year-old female in a park. They wound  of assaulting her, choking her, and were shooting her with a bb gun,” he says. “All 10 of the suspects were under 17, but the four were old enough that there were actually chargeable as adults.”

The other three who were indicted for this assault were Zeto Ulrich Place, 16, of Frederick; Caleb Zachariah Purcell, 17, of Frederick; and Uel Sam Boama, 17, of Frederick.

Another person indicted on Friday was Jawan Lamote Carroll, 17, of Frederick, for two counts of 2nd-degree rape for an incident which took place on October 31st and November 1st, 2016. Smith says the victim’s mother contacted police because her daughter had been missing. “The young girl was seen leaving the defendant’s home at some point in time. Investigation further revealed that they had sexual relations. Unfortunately, the girl was very young, much younger than the defendant who is also young himself, 17,” says Smith.

Grand Jurors also indicted Ralph Lee Maddox-Byrd, 26, of Washington DC for 1st- and 2nd-degree assault and reckless endangerment. Smith says it was for an incident which occurred on February 26th, 2012, where a woman had been badly beaten. “Officers from Frederick Police Department responded to Shock Trauma, revealed that the defendant had gotten into a fight with his girlfriend,” says Smith. “He had strangled her, picked her up, slammed her down by her head on a wooden chair, causing a very, very deep gash behind her ear.”

Another person indicted by the Grand Jury was Frederick William Sharp, 32, of Middletown, on child pornography charges, including possession of child pornography. “A corporal with Maryland State Police was able to access a video depicting child pornography that he was sharing on a network. They executed a search warrant, and found the 32-year-old son at home who was living with his parents was using a laptop to do this unfortunate stuff,” says Smith. The offenses occurred between October 12th, 2015 and November 18th, 2014.

Three others indicted by the Grand Jury are:

* Bryan Paul Harris, 49, Frederick, Md, whose charged with 1st-degree rape, 1st-degree assault and 2nd-degree assault for an incident which occurred on June 7th, 2016.

* Jarrett Alan Gibson, 25, of Walkersville, Md., whose charged with two counts each of possession with intent to distribute and possession of heroin and cocaine; and one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia (a digital scale); and possession of heroin and cocaine for an incident which occurred on November 17th, 2016.

* Michael J. Cariola, 23, of Frederick, Md., whose charged with possession with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana; illegal possession of a regulated firearm; having a handgun in a vehicle; possession a firearm during a drug transaction; violating an ex parte order for an incident which occurred on November 26th, 2016.

The indictments move these cases to the Circuit Court where a trial date will be set.
