State Police Identify Deceased From Wed. I-70 Crash

His vehicle burst into flames after it was hit by a dump truck.

Frederick, Md (KM) The identity of the man who died in a four-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on Interstate 70 in Frederick County has been released.

State Police say Jacob Jackson, 46, of Gaithersburg was the driver of a Nissan Rogue which was stopped behind two dump trucks on I-70 westbound near the I-270 ramp, waiting  for a Congressional motorcade to pass. The vehicle was struck in the rear by a third dump truck, and burst into flames.

Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say the drivers of the  dump trucks in front of Jackson’s vehicle, Mark Tew, 27, of Hanover, and Richard Aldar, 53, of Sykesville, had stopped to let the motorcade pass. A dump truck operated by Shawn Gill, 46, of Gaithersburg, came upon the three vehicles, and could not stop. His dump truck slammed into the rear of the Nissan Rogue, causing all four vehicles to collide.

Gill and Tew were taken by ambulance to Frederick Memorial Hospital. Aldar refused medical treatment at the scene.

I-70 westbound in that area was closed for almost four hours for an investigation and cleanup.

State Police say their investigation is continuing, and charges are pending.
