Liz Shatto honored by Small Museum Association.
College Park, Md (KM) The Executive Director of the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area was honored this week. Liz Shatto received the highest honor from the Small Museum Association for her 25-years of work, and the impact it’s had on museums and historic sites in mid-Maryland.
The Small Museum Association Award honors an individual’s outstanding contributions to the advancement of the small museum community on a regional or state level, according to the SMA in a news release.
In 1992, Shatto began coordinating the Historic Sites Consortium through the Tourism Council of Frederick County. She became full time director of the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area in 2014. Today, she leads 13 peer institutions as the co-Chair of the Coalition of Maryland Heritage Areas.
Shatto was honored for her work during the Small Museum Association’s conference held in College Park on February 19th through the 21st.
