HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) – A man who fled to New York City after a fatal shooting in western Maryland has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
The Herald-Mail newspaper http://bit.ly/2lrLlgJ reports that 47-year-old Demitrius Wright also pleaded guilty Monday in Hagerstown to using a handgun in a crime of violence in the August 2015 shooting of 41-year-old Antonio Mooney.
Wright faces the possibility of 25 years in prison at his sentencing, which hasn’t been scheduled.
Assistant State’s Attorney Christopher McCormack says the evidence shows that Mooney and Wright got into a fight in the parking lot of Wright’s Hagerstown apartment. He says witness statements indicate that Wright left to retrieve a handgun, and then returned and shot Mooney after Mooney lunged at him.
Wright was arrested last March in New York.
