A Corvette was going at a high rate of speed before hitting another vehicle.

FREDERICK, Md. (DG)-An accident on northbound Interstate 270 claimed the lives of two people Wednesday night in Frederick County

Maryland State Police said the crash happened before 10 PM at Baker Valley Road, around the scenic overlook.

Investigators say that a 2013 Chevrolet Corvette was going north at a high rate of speed in the left lane, when the driver changed lanes and hit a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta in the right lane.

The Corvette went off the road along the right shoulder and through a guardrail. The car hit several trees before it stopped on an embankment.

Police say the driver of the Corvette, Craig Sandford 55, of Martinsburg, and passenger, Anthony Hise, 56, of Damascus, were both killed in the accident.

The northbound lanes of 270 were closed for two hours while the crash was investigated.
