Suspected shooter is a WV correctional officer.
Frederick, Md. (KM) A Martinsburg, West Virginia man has been charged for a shooting in Frederick County on Tuesday. State Police say Darrell Lee Baker, Jr., 26, is charged with first- and second-degree assault, having a handgun on his person and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony or a crime of violence.
Investigators say Baker shot Paul David Thompson, 52, of Sharpsburg along westbound Route 340 near Route 180. The two were involved in a road rage incident. They stopped their vehicles along the highway and got into an argument which turned physical. Thompson was shot in the foot and the leg.
He was medivaced to Shock Trauma to be treated for his injuries, which authorities say are not life-threatening.
Baker is a correctional officer at the Eastern Regional Jail in Martinsburg. The West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety says Baker has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of an investigation.
