Hospice of Frederick County Holding Free Discussion Event and Movie About End of Life Options

FREDERICK, Md. (KR)  Hospice of Frederick County is inviting the community to a free event about end of life options and caring for the dying.

Hospice will be showing a documentary called Being Mortal at Hodson Auditorium at Hood College in Frederick on Tuesday, April 4th from 6-8PM.

Rachel Mandel, Vice President of Medical Affairs for Frederick Regional Health Systems, says they will have a discussion after the movie for questions.

“The intent is for us to bring to the community, this very challenging topic. It’s an uncomfortable, complex topic of how do we talk about end of life goals and care? How do we talk about what we want when there’s clearly no other medical things that can be done for us? Or, are there some things that can be done to keep us comfortable? What’s important to us? What’s unique to us, and what do we want and what does our family want?” said Mandel.

She said their goal is to help families start the conversation about end of life care with their loved ones.

“We want to make sure people have all the information that they need to make those decisions, so that when they come to that point, there’s no confusion. That way the family can really spend the time with their loved one and not spend that time worrying about, what should we be doing? They already know,” said Mandel.

Following the movie and discussions will be a reception with wine and light refreshments available. For more information call 240-566-4055 or email [email protected] to register.
