A Frederick man was also indicted for an arson fire.
Frederick, Md (KM). The Frederick County Grand Jury on Friday indicted a Martinsburg, West Virginia man for one count of 1st-degree assault, two counts of 2nd-degree assault, and one count each of use of a firearm in a crime of violence or a felony, and having a handgun on his person.
Darrell Baker is a suspect in road rage incident on Tuesday, March 7th. “He was identified as a 26-year-old who shot at another man on two occasions, once in the leg and once in the foot, in a confrontation that occurred over there near Jefferson and 340,” says State’s Attorney Charlie Smith.
State Police say Baker and Paul David Thompson, 52, of Sharpsburg, were involved in a road rage incident along westbound Route 340 and Route 180. They both stopped their vehicle on the highway and got into an argument which turned physical. Thompson was shot in the foot and the leg. He was medivaced to University of Maryland Shock Trauma with what troopers said were non-life threatening injuries.
Baker was treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital for injuries to his head, and released.
He’s also a correctional officer at the Eastern Regional Jail in Martinsburg.
Another person indicted by the Grand Jury on Friday was Kyle Nicholas Northrup, 23, of Frederick. The panel charged him with two counts of 2nd-degree arson, and one count each of 2nd-degree burglary; theft between $1,000 and $10,000; 4th-degree burglary; and malicious destruction of property less than $1,000.
Smith says these charges are for a fire on Sunday, February 26th at a storage facility at 1724 North Market Street. “The investigators responded over there and they responded to the garage area. Their investigation later revealed there were items stolen from the garage unit as well,” says Smith.
Northrup was arrested the next day. He told detectives he had nothing to do with starting the fire at the storage building.
Other indictments handed down include:
* Marry Arroyo, 18, of Frederick. She charged with possession with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana; possession with intent to distribute and possession of alprazolam; use of a firearm in drug trafficking; possession of a firearm by a minor; having a firearm with an altered i.d., for an offense which occurred on March 9th, 2017.
* Cody A. Ketterman, 20, of Frederick. He’s charged with possession with intent to distribute and possession of cocaine; and resisting and interfering with an arrest, for an offense which occurred on February 28th, 2017.
* Michael Gregory Phillips, 38, of Frederick. He’s charged with 2nd-degree child abuse and 2nd-degree assault for an offense which occurred on January 22nd, 2017.
* Jeffrey Lynn Bodine, 20, of Frederick. He’s charged with 2nd-degree burglary; 4th-degree burglary of a storehouse; 4th-degree burglary and theft; and theft less than $1,000 for an offense which occurred on January 31st, 2017.
Smith says each of these indictments automatically move these cases to Circuit Court, where a trial date will be scheduled within 180 days.
