He also will be put on three-years supervised probation when he’s released from prison.
Frederick, Md (KM). A Frederick man who was dealing cocaine in the area was sentenced on Tuesday to 25 years in prison, with all but eight years suspended. Jose Cabrera, 26, will be placed on three years of supervised probation when he’s released.
Cabrera pleaded guilty in December 20th, 2016 to distribution of cocaine.
State’s Attorney Charlie Smith says Frederick Police began investigating Cabrera as a possible drug dealer in 2015. “We had some undercover police officers purchase cocaine directly from the defendant on two occasions, and another occasion, a substance that he represented as cocaine, which is also a felony,” Smith says.
Cabrera was arrested on May 31st, 2016.
Smith says Cabrera was not selling cocaine to support a habit. “We felt very strongly that he was strictly a dealer. That’s why we sought a pretty substantial sentence and that’s why he got a sentence of 25 years with all but eight years suspended in the Division of Correction,” he said.
If Cabrera violates his probation, he could be sent back to prison to serve out the remaining 17 years which were suspended.
