Two are taken to the hospital.

Frederick, Md (KM) Fire damaged at three-story apartment building in Frederick on Tuesday afternoon.

Fire fighters were dispatched to the 1300 block of North East Street for a deck fire. But Battalion Chief Kevin Fox with Frederick County Fire and Rescue Services says the flames spread from a third-floor balcony to the roof. He says 30 fire fighters spent 30-minutes putting out the flames.

“There was one fire fighter and one civilian injury. Both were transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital,” Fox says. The fire fighter was suffering from heat exhaustion, and the civilian from smoke inhalation, fire officials say..

“There are some residents displaced. That’s due to smoke and water damage on the second and third floors,” he says. Officials say 18 people were displaced.  The Red Cross was called to the scene.

Damage is estimated at $100,000. The cause remains under investigation.
