Carroll Co. Sheriff’s Office Verifies Sex Offender Registrants’ Addresses

There was one who  moved without notifying authorities.

 


Westminster, Md (KM) From May 8th through the 12th, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Registry Unit conducted address verification operations. This occurs each month to make sure the addresses of individuals who are required to register as sex offenders are up to date.

 

 

Authorities say out of the 25 offender addresses, 23 were properly verified. Two addresses were not able to be verified, and one person moved without notifying the registry. That violation is currently under investigation.
The supervisor of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Registry Unit is Corporal McMillen. (no first name was provided), who makes contact with each of these registrants to make sure their addresses are current. The ones during the recent operation whose addresses could not be property verified will be check out as time permits, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

 

 

These verification operations are paid for with a Federal Sex Offender Compliance Grant.
Maryland law requires all sex offenders residing in Carroll County or anywhere in the state to register with local law enforcement. Tier One Sex Offenders must register bi-annually for 15 years. Tier Two Sex Offenders need to register bi-annually for 25 years. Tier Three Sex Offenders are required to register for life. All homeless registrants must register once a week.

 

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office has been responsible for keeping track of sex offender registrants since 2011.
