Drug Charges Filed Against Two Men Following Traffic Stop

Police also found narcotics.

Frederick, Md (KM) Frederick Police have charged two men with drug offenses. Gregory John Nass , 52, of Frederick and Matthew James Strayer, 31, of Salix, Pennsylvania were arrested on Wednesday following a traffic stop in the 1,000 block of West Patrick Street.

Police says an officer with the Street Crimes Division noticed a vehicle traveling along Willowdale Drive near Key Parkway displaying suspended license plates, and initiated a stop. But the vehicle didn’t fully stop until it reached the 1,000 block of West Patrick Street.

Officers say Nass and other occupants of the vehicle were visibly nervous, and a police canine was called to the scene to do a sniff for drugs. Just prior to the dog checking for drugs, police say Strayer began reaching around in the backseat area, and failed to comply with orders by officers to stop. So all occupants of the vehicle were removed.

The dog indicated the presence of narcotics. Nass was placed under arrest.

Officers searched his person and found suspected crack cocaine. They also searched Strayer, who had two oxycodone pills, and no prescription for this medication. A search of the car netted a glass smoking device and a white powdery substance on the rear floorboard. Both Nass and Strayer were taken to the Adult Detention Center.

Nass is charged with one count each of possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Strayer is charged with one count each of possession of crack cocaine and oxycodone, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
