City Of Frederick To Spray Copper Sulfate To Control Algae

It’s scheduled for Thursday, weather permitting.

Frederick, Md (KM) In order to control the growth of odor-causing algae, the Frederick City Department of Public Works Department will spray 180 pounds of copper sulfate on to Lake Linganore; and eight pounds on  to the Fishing Creek Reservoir.

The spraying will take place on Thursday, June 1st from 8:00 AM until 11:30 A-M at Lake Linganore, and from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Fishing Creek Reservoir.

City officials say the copper sulfate crystals will be diluted with water, and the concentrations of dissolved copper will be sprayed along the shorelines.

The Maryland Department of the Environment and the Lake  Linganore Association have been contacted and made aware of the treatment plan.

If there’s a more than 50% chance of rain in the forecast, the spaying will be rescheduled.
