One Man Shot In The Head Monday Morning In Ijamsville

Police say he’s expected to survive.

Ijamsville, Md. (KM). One man was transported to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown following a shooting in Ijamsville Monday morning.

Maryland State Police were dispatched to the 2700 block of Green Valley Road at around 6:30 AM, where they found Steven R. Beitzel, Sr., 52, with a gunshot wound to his head. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance. “The hospital personnel told investigators that he is expected to survive,” says spokesman Greg Shipley.

Shipley says Beitzel lives at the home where he was shot. Two of his relatives were present at the time of the shooting, State Police say.

After their arrival, state troopers secured the scene and requested criminal investigators and crime scene technicians respond. “Investigators from the State Police have been on the scene all day, along with crime scene technicians,” says Shipley. “They obtained a search warrant for the residence and have been searching for evidence and conducting interviews for information throughout the day.”

He says investigators are trying to determine how the shooting occurred, and whose responsible.. “We don’t have any generalization to put on this right now. But we don’t believe that it was a random incident,” says Shipley.

“The people either at that location or the victim all are the ones involved in this. And someone in that group is responsible for this,” he says.

No arrests have been made at this time and no charges have been filed.
