Frederick Man Killed In Two-Vehicle Crash Near Thurmont

Authorities say he was riding a motorcycle.

 

Thurmont, Md (KM) A Frederick man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a vehicle crash south of Thurmont.

The Sheriff’s Office say Burt Franklin Monath, 54, was operating a Honda motorcycle southbound in the 10,500 block of Hessong Bridge Road when it collided with a GMC Suburban which was hauling a utility trailer. Monath was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say the driver of the GMC identified as Van Alden Brewer, 64, of Thurmont was traveling northbound when he failed to observe the motorcycle as he was making a left hand turn into a residential driveway. Monath’s motorcycle collided with the Suburban and the utility trailer.

Deputies say the there is no indication of any impairment by either driver.

The crash remains under investigation by Deputy Nathan Rector. Anyone who has information on this accident  is asked to contact Dfc. Jason Noblick at 301-600-6490.

The Sheriff’s Office says multiple fire and rescue crews as well as fire police helped deputies investigate this collision.
