Suspect Arrested In Mt. Airy Gas Station Robbery

He was taken into custody early Friday morning.


Mt. Airy, Md (KM) A suspect has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of the Shell gas station on Lakeview Drive in Mount Airy on Monday morning June 12th. The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office took Ricky Shelton Ward, 40, into custody Friday morning after serving a search and seizure warrant on a home at 17,777 Frederick Road in Mount Airy.

Ward is charged with armed robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime, possession of a handgun, possession of a hand gun in a vehicle, 1st- and 2nd-degree assault, reckless endangerment and theft under $1,000.

Authorities say the clerk on duty at the gas station was familiar with Ward through voice recognition. He also told investigators that the suspect was a regular customer at the gas station,  and he knew by his first name as Ricky,

Investigators also went through surveillance video and identified Ward as the suspect. They say Ward implicated himself in the robbery, and a BB gun used in the incident was also recovered.

Howard County Police assisted the Sheriff’s Office in the search and seizure operation. During the operation, two adults wanted in Howard Count on open warrants were located. They were turned over to Howard County Police Officers.
