Man Arrested for Crashing Into House

After crashing into the house, the man fled.


THURMONT, Md. (DG) – A Thurmont man who crashed a car into a house was arrested a year later for his crime.

Thurmont Police report on July 16, 2016 at 3:30 AM, an officer saw a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Boundary Ave. near the Carnival grounds.

When the officer tried to stop the vehicle, the driver fled and crashed into a house in the 100 blk of East Main Street. The driver fled on foot.

Police determined that the vehicle had been stolen from an address on Catoctin Furnace Road. During their investigation with DNA analysis, police were able to identifiy 24-year-old Robert Springer as the suspect.

On June 25, 2017, Springer was charged with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, reckless driving, negligent driving, failure to stop after an accident, and fleeing and eluding police.
