Human Remains Found In Frederick Municipal Forest

They were found by a hiker in a shallow grave.

Frederick, Md. (KM) A grisly discovery was made Thursday evening in the Frederick Municipal Forest. The Sheriff’s Office says a hiker came upon a shallow grave with   human remains in an area off of Gambrill Park Road, north of Coxey Brown Road. Police were contacted. Major Tim Clarke with the Sheriff’s Office says the area was secured by deputies during the overnight.

On Friday at  7:00 AM, detectives with the Sheriff’s Office and the Frederick Police began processing the scene, looking for evidence. He says the bones  were significantly decomposed, indicating they may have been there for some time.

Major Clarke says investigators have concluded they are human remains based on evidence found at the scene “and the fact it was found in a shallow grave,” he says.

So far, Clarke says, no human affects were found with the bones. “We’re still in the process of looking at the scene, and we haven’t found anything in that regard at this point,” he says.

He says the Sheriff’s Office and other police agencies will be looking over their missing persons’ cases to determine if the remains could be one of the individuals who have been reported missing
