Flash Flood Watch In Effect

Sterling, Va.  (NWS)  The National Weather Services has put a Flash Flood Watch in affect for the region.  Areas covered include:

Southern Baltimore-Anne Arundel-St. Marys-Calvert-
Extreme Western Allegany-Central and Eastern Allegany-
Northwest Howard-Central and Southeast Howard-Northwest Harford-
Southeast Harford-Shenandoah-Frederick VA-Page-Warren-Clarke-
Greene-Northern Virginia Blue Ridge-Hampshire-Morgan-Berkeley-
Jefferson-Hardy-Western Grant-Eastern Grant-Western Mineral-
Eastern Mineral-
Including the cities of Hagerstown, Frederick, Ballenger Creek,
Eldersburg, Westminster, Reisterstown, Cockeysville, Baltimore,
Glen Burnie, Annapolis, Severn, South Gate, Severna Park, Arnold,
Odenton, Lexington Park, California, Chesapeake Beach,
Huntingtown, Dunkirk, North Beach, Lusby, Prince Frederick,
Frostburg, Cumberland, Lisbon, Columbia, Ellicott City,

The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has expanded

* Flash Flood Watch to include portions of Maryland, Virginia,
and West Virginia, including the following areas, in Maryland,
Anne Arundel, Calvert, Carroll, Central and Eastern Allegany,
Central and Southeast Howard, Extreme Western Allegany,
Frederick MD, Northern Baltimore, Northwest Harford, Northwest
Howard, Southeast Harford, Southern Baltimore, St. Marys, and
Washington. In Virginia, Clarke, Frederick VA, Greene,
Northern Virginia Blue Ridge, Page, Shenandoah, and Warren. In
West Virginia, Berkeley, Eastern Grant, Eastern Mineral,
Hampshire, Hardy, Jefferson, Morgan, Western Grant, and
Western Mineral.

* Through late tonight

* A line of moderate to heavy rainfall is developing from the
Maryland-Pennsylvania border westward into Ohio. Rainfall
intensity is expected to increase late this afternoon and
evening, with the potential of producing 2 or more inches of
rain in an hour.


A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
