Investigation Underway Into Baby Girl’s Death

She was found unresponsive in a vehicle parked at a Motel 6.

Gaithersburg, Md (KM). Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department are investigating the death of a four-month-old baby.

Captain Paul Starks says County and Gaithersburg Police Officers, and fire and rescue personnel, were dispatched at around 10:28 AM on Sunday to 497 Quince Orchard Road in the parking lot of a Motel 6 for an unresponsive infant. “Those first responders located a four-month-old girl who was not responsive. She was transported to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital where she was pronounced deceased,” he says.

The infant is identified as Brooklyn Ruth Irby. Her body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

Captain Starks says the baby and her family had been living in a van parked outside of the Motel 6. He was asked if heat was a factor in the girl’s death. “Investigators aren’t ruling anything out at this point. That’s why they’ve labeled this death as undetermined,” he says.

The Associated Press reports that the girl’s grandfather, identified as Michael Dionne, said his family had been living in that van in the parking lot. He said his daughter’s for application forĀ  housing had been turned down.Ca

Captain StarksĀ  was also asked about charges being filed in this case. “If something is shown, or some action or some behavior that rises to the level of a criminal violation, then that’s something investigators are looking at. But right now, it’s wide open,” he says.

Anyone who has information on this case that could help investigators is asked to call the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070.
