Two Howard County Police Officers Involved In Mt. Airy Shooting Identified

They have been placed on administrative leave.

 

 

Mount Airy, Md (KM) The names of the two Howard County Police Officers involved in Monday’s shooting in Mount Airy have been released. They are Corporal Thomas Townsend, a 16-year member of the police force, and Officer First Class Darshan Luckey, whose a ten-year member of the police department. Both were part of the Repeat Offender Proactive Enforcement Unit.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office says the two were involved in a mutli-jurisdictional investigation into a series of burglaries when they came upon a break in along Manor Drive South. They contacted the Sheriff’s Office and were told to initiate a traffic stop on the suspects’ vehicle.

After the traffic stop, the driver of a van rammed the Howard County Police Car. The operator also tried to run down the two cops, who were outside their vehicle. They fired on the van which was charging toward them in the 12-thousand block of Manor Drive South, killing Cody Ethan Mitchell, 26, of Damascus.

Shyann Brandi-Dawn Outen , 28, of Woodbine, who was also in the van, was taken into custody, and charged with 1st-degree burglary and theft.

The two officers were not hurt. The Howard County Police Department says they’ve been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
