Route 496 Bridge Replacement

Westminster, Md (LR)  The bridge on Route 496 over Big Pipe Creek in Westminster is being replaced.

The State Highway Administration is replacing the bridge that they report is safe, but has outlived its useful service life and needs to be replaced.

The new bridge will include two 11-foot-wide lanes and two nine-foot-wide shoulders for pedestrians and bicyclists.

According to the SHA, 3,700 vehicles use this portion of Route 496 each day.  One lane of traffic will be closed during construction and motorists will be alternated across the bridge with a temporary traffic signal on each side of the bridge.

The $4 million project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2018.
