FREDERICK, Md. (KR) In an effort to help raise money for a memorial park and to help families and kids play, learn and create lifelong memories together, there will be a 5K and Fun Run next month.
The Pirate & Princess 5k and Fun Run will be held on Saturday, September 30th at Monocacy Village Park. The event will help fundraise for Sophie & Madigan’s Playground, a charitable organization created to honor the lives of Sophie and Madigan Lillard, who died at ages 6 and 3 as a result of a horrific house fire.
Their mother, Chrissi Lillard, survived the fire along with her husband and her two other daughters Morgan and Sadie. Chrissi is encouraging the community to come out and participate in the event, as well as other events they have coming up.
“We also have something called the winter carnival for grieving families that we’ll be doing December 9th. It’s our first year doing it, we’ll have resources and we’ll try to make some connections and have a little bit of fun while we’re at it, because it’s hard when you’ve lost somebody and unfortunately in our area, for kids, there’s not a whole lot of support, so that’s what we’re trying to build as one of our create programs,” said Lillard.
