Remains Of Two Individuals Found In Burned Out Home

Their bodies were recovered on Friday.

Taneytown, Md (KM) The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says the remains of two individuals have been found inside a home in Taneytown that caught fire Friday morning. Authorities say deputy fire marshals and agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives found one set of remains late in the morning., and the other later on that day.

Officials say the home at 2201 Bear Run Road had two elderly occupants, but it’s unknown at this time if the remains are those of the two who  were reported missing earlier on Friday. Their bodies have been taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine their identities.

Fire fighters from Carroll and Frederick Counties responded to the home shortly after 5:00 AM after neighbors reported hearing explosions and seeing flames from the residence. They spent one hour bringing the blaze under control. Taneytown Volunteer Fire personnel remained at the scene, assisting investigators and dousing hot spots.

Investigators at the scene noticed considerable hoarding conditions inside the home which made it difficult for them to get into certain areas of the house, officials say.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says it’s conducting a joint investigation into this incident with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

The Maryland State Highway Administration assisted with the investigation by providing excavating equipment at the site to remove large sections of fire debris.
