State Police say speed and unsafe passing are major factors.
Boonsboro, Md (KM) A Hagerstown man operating a motorcycle was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Washington County.
Shortly before 4:00 AM, State Police say Trey Matthew Hinkle, 21, was riding his Honda CBR 600 motorcycle southbound along Sharpsburg Pike near Bakersville Road in Boonsboro when he entered the northbound lane to pass another vehicle. At that time, a Chevrolet Spark operated by Lacey Lynette Leslie, 21, of Kearneysville, West Virginia was traveling northbound. Her car collided head-on with the motorcycle. The bike then struck a utility pole.
Hinkle was thrown from his bike. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Leslie was taken to Meritus Medical Center by ambulance to be treated for her injuries.
Troopers say unsafe passing and speed are believed to be factors in this crash which remains under investigation. Hinkle was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
