Middletown Man Gets 10 Years For Child Abuse

He beat a boy with a metal  broomstick handle.

Frederick, Md (KM). A Middletown man who beat a child is going to prison. Eukpeeh Izaac Lloyd, 41, was sentenced on Monday to 15 years for one count of 2nd-degree child abuse, but the judge suspended all but 10 years. For another count of 2nd-degree child abuse, Lloyd received 15-years consecutive to the first count, but that sentence was suspended. In all, Lloyd will be incarcerated for 10 years.

State’s Attorney Charlie Smith called this a “substantial sentence” because Lloyd beat a 13-year-old boy with a metal broomstick handle for  not thoroughly cleaning a bathroom. The child was also whipped with an extension cord. “This isn’t to be confused with corporal punishment. This isn’t somebody who spanked their kid. This is somebody who was obviously physically was beating their child repeatedly to the point where there were prior multiple visible scars from prior assaults,” he said.

Lloyd was arrested in October, 2016. Police were investigating a domestic abuse incident and found the child with injuries due to his beatings. He had a 4- to 5-inch gash on his leg, a wound on his arm and whip marks on his back.

Lloyd was tried and found guilty on June 16th,2017  of two counts of 2nd-degree child abuse and 2nd-degree assault.

“You’re entitled to spank your child. The law allows you to do that. The law allows you to parent in the manner in which you want to when it comes to corporal punishment. But there’s a line you can’t cross, and this is well, well, well beyond this line,” says Smith.
