State Police Helicopter Rescues Man Who Falls Into Crevice

He was hoisted out and flown to Shock Trauma.

Frederick, Md (KM) Maryland State Police say one of their helicopters was used to rescue a man who fell into crevice in a rugged area at Catoctin Mountain Park on Sunday.

Trooper-3  assigned to Frederick was dispatched to the area of Chimney Rock after the 48-year-old fell while hiking.

Pilots maneuvered the chopper into a position about 100-feet from a rocky embankment. A state trooper was lowered to assist medics in packaging the patient, who was hoisted into the helicopter and flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. State Police say the hoisting operation took about 12-minutes.

In a statement, State Police say this operation is an example of the “constant collaboration”  between local fire and rescue, law enforcement, technical rescue teams and the MSP Aviation Command.

Troopers with the Aviation Command remind citizens to exercise caution when outside, enjoying the last few weeks of warm weather.
