Organizations Can Apply For Grants To Benefit Residents At Citizens & Montevue

The deadline is Oct. 21st.

Frederick, Md (KM). Applications are being accepted from organizations which want to benefit the residents of the Citizens Care and Rehabilitation and the Montevue Assisted Living Centers. During her public information briefing last Thursday, Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner says $37,000 in grant funding will be available. “A local non-profit or an auxiliary group of Citizens or Montevue can apply through the Community Foundation for a grant to support projects that will enhance the lives of the residents,” she said.

The deadline to apply is October 21st.

This is the first year of the grants, and additional amounts will be awarded in later years, says Gardner.

The funds are administered through the Community Foundation of Frederick County.   Executive Director Betsy Day says each of the applications will be considered by a committee set up by the Community Foundation. “The committee will be reviewing these applications, and basing their decisions on the number of people served; how well it fits with Citizens and Montevue’s services and scope of care; also, making sure this money is indeed not just having a short term benefit, but a longer term benefit as well,” she says.

The Committee is expected to make it decisions by the middle of November, says Day. “The minimum grant request may be $500. The maximum may be $37,000,” she adds.

Donors Don Linton, Charles Trunk, Sonja Sperling and Kay Sheiss established these funds with additional members of the community making contributions.

The last Board of County Commissioners decided to sell the two facilities in 2012, and these funds were put on hold. But County Executive Gardner’s administration was able to keep the county ownership of the Citizens and Montevue and these funds are now being made available.

Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center is operated as a nursing home.  The revenue from Citizens subsidizes assisted living for the indigent and elderly residents at the Montevue Assisted Living Center.
