Work Underway To Improve Seven, I-70 Bridge Approaches In Frederick County

The first one started Monday night.

Frederick, Md (KM) Work will be taking place during the overnight hours on seven bridge approaches on Interstate 70 in Frederick County. The Maryland State Highway Administration began work on Monday on the first project, which is westbound I-70 at  US 40, or exit 49.

The other bridge approaches  are:

* Westbound I-70 prior to I-270

* Eastbound I-70 at the bridge over Catoctin Creek

* Eastbound I-70 at Harmony Rd.

* Eastbound I-70 at Hollow Rd.

* Eastbound I-70 at US 15

* Eastbound I-70 at US 340

* Eastbound I-70 at the South Mountain Rest Area

SHA spokesman Charlie Gischlar says the work will take place Sunday through Friday from 9:00 PM until 5:00. He says each bridge approach project will take about two nights  to complete.

If you happen to be driving I-70 during those hours, you could encounter reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. “Motorists are encouraged to use plenty of time for commuting in the overnight hours, and slow down and stay alert in the workzones,” Gischlar says.

The project is expected to be completed by late fall.

SHA awarded the contract to Kline LLC of Frederick for nearly $700,000.
