Merchants are asked to be vigilant when accepting US dollar bills. Take some time to look for any security features on the bills; check for raised ink, and uniform thickness of the paper and texture; compare one bill with another of the same domination to see if they’re alike. If you receive two bills, check the serial numbers  to see if they’re  the same; they  shouldn’t be. Police also say US bills have a security thread  which runs vertically up the left side of the bill. Check for watermarks on the left side of the bill by holding it up to the light. And always use counterfeit detector pens.
