Man Charged With Setting His Parents’ House On Fire

They escaped without injury.

 


Funkistown, Md (KM) A Funkstown man has been arrested for intentionally setting his parents’ house on fire. Tyler P. Higgins, 25, is charged with 1st-degree arson, two counts of attempted 2nd-degree murder, malicious burning in the 1st-degree, malicious destruction of property over $1,000,  and reckless endangerment. .

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says a 911 call came into Washington County Fire and Rescue Communications at around 2:25 AM on Friday for a domestic in progress at 25 East Baltimore Street in Funkstown involving Tyler Higgins. Mrs. Higgins told dispatchers her son was pouring gasoline on the floor outside of their bedroom,. and set their home at 25 East Baltimore Street.

Jeanette and Earl Higgins, Tyler’s parents, escaped through a second-floor window on to a balcony and were rescued by fire fighters.

Tyler Higgins fled the scene, but was apprehended in front of Joker’s Bar and Grill in Funkstown by Maryland State Police and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

He was taken to the Washington County Detention Center,  waiting for a bond review hearing on Monday, November 6th.
