Animal Control Reduces Some Fees to Increase Adoptions in December

Cats and kittens adoption fee reduced from $97.50 to $22.00.

FREDERICK, MD – Kitten season. It’s not a term often associated with December, however, in 2017 with the above-average fall temperatures, kitten season has run into the holiday season.

Frederick County Animal Control and Pet Adoption Center currently has an animal population of 266 residents, and 180 of those residents are cats and kittens. In an effort to find homes for as many of these felines as possible, FCAC is currently adopting them for a fee of $22.
Animals adopted during the “Holidays are Happier with a New Pet” promotion will be provided with the same level of care at $22 that they would normally receive at $97.50. All cats and kittens are spayed or neutered. They receive rabies and distemper vaccinations, dewormer, flea and tick preventative, county licenses and microchips, as well as a free well visit to a veterinarian.
Frederick County Animal Control does not euthanize for length of stay or population control. The average total animal population for December is approximately 150 animals. With a current cat population larger than the average total animal population, this reduction in the feline adoption fee is designed to increase the number of adoptions, which will in turn create more space for the animals and residents of Frederick County in need of FCAC’s services.
In addition to the reduced feline adoption fees, FCAC has also reduced the adoption fees for guinea pigs. To increase the adoptions for the more than 20 guinea pigs in the shelter’s care, they will be adopted for a fee of $5 instead of the usual $10. As with the cats, standard adoption procedures still apply.
