Fox Named Acting Deputy Chief, Frederick County Fire & Rescue Services

He will also be Interim Director, Volunteer Fire & Rescue.

 


Frederick, Md (KM) Battalion Chief Kevin Fox has been chosen as Acting Deputy Chief for the Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services effective Monday, December 11th. He was also picked by County Executive Jan Gardner as the interim Director of Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services. Fox replaces Chip Jewell who recently announced his retirement.

Acting Chief Fox has been a volunteer in the fire and rescue service for more than 30 years, serving at times as President of the Thurmont Community Ambulance Service, and Vice President of the Guardian Hose Company. He has been working for Frederick County government,since 1990, starting out as an emergency communications dispatcher, and then became a fire fighter with the Division of Fire and Rescue Services in 1999. In 2015, Fox was promoted to Battalion Chief. Over the past four years, Fox was the Division’s spokesman. He also teaches part time at the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute.

County officials say  it will be an open recruitment process for selecting a replacement for Chip Jewell. Candidates for the position will be evaluated by a panel of county staff and representatives from the Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association’s Executive Committee.

The County Executive will make the final selection which must confirmed by the County Council.
