Accident At School Construction Site Kills One, Injures Another

Neither were School System employees.

 

 

Urbana, Md (KM) One person was killed in a construction accident at the site of the future Sugarloaf Elementary School in Urbana on Monday morning.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and fire and rescue personnel were dispatched to the 3400 block of Stone Barn Drive at around 11:01 AM. Deputies say two workers were on a scaffolding attaching panels to the exterior of the building when it collapsed. One worker fell 25-feet to the ground. and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for treatment of a leg injury.

Their names have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Authorities say the two individuals were working for an independent contracting company and are not School System employees.

The Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating this accident.
