Woman Charged With Arson For Setting Her House On Fire

The fire in November injured one of her adult sons.

 


Hagerstown, Md (KM) A Hagerstown woman is charged with setting her house on fire last month. The State Fire Marshal’s Office says Debra Sue Turner, 54, was served with summons on Monday, charging her with one count of 1st-degree arson, two counts of 2nd-degree arson, two counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of malicious burning in the 1st-degree, two counts of malicious burning in the 2nd-degree and two counts of malicious destruction of property. .

Authorities say on Saturday evening, November 18th, Turner set some combustibles on fire at her double-wide trailer located in the 1600 block of Lakeview Court. Turner was inside the home at the time with her two adult sons; one was transported to Meritus Medical Center with minor injuries.

46 fire fighters from the Halfway Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding departments responded at around 7:02 PM, and put out the flames. Damage is estimated at $85,000. The home is considered a total loss.

The Maryland StateĀ  Fire Marshal’s Office says if convicted, Turner could be facing penalties of up to 50-years in prisons and/or fines up to $80.000.
