Frederick, Md (KM) A local State Trooper has been named as the 2017 Maryland State Police Aviation Command’s Trooper of the Year. Officials say John “Jack” Wildman, 24, was chosen for the honor for his outstanding performance, leadership and personal desire to help others.
Wildman is currently assigned to the Aviation Command Frederick Section. He’s been with the Maryland State Police since 2015.
In a statement, Maryland State Police say Trooper Wildman is “an active trooper” who combines his experience as a paramedic and his passion for law enforcement.
His biography says Wildman earned his bachelor’s degree at Hamilton College, and has completed work for a graduate program at Johns Hopkins University.
State Police officials say Wildman has taken part in several notable aerial rescues in 2017, including one at the Prettyboy Dam in Baltimore County. In August of that year, fire and rescue personnel had resuscitated a drowning victim, but were not successful in extricating that person. Wildman conducted a stokes litter extraction with the victim in cardiac arrest. The patient regained a pulse after being hoisted into the aircraft.
This was the first time in Maryland history where a device provided continuous mechanical compressions to the patient while hoisting operations were underway.
Trooper Wildman is also active in several community service programs, including the Carroll County Police Explorer Academy, which teaches basic first aid to 20 students interested police-related careers. He also took part in the Shop with a Cop Program in Cecil County.
